Will a small koi keep growing in a small pond?

I have all across the board from the first purchased koi " inexpensive to cycle the pond. To the select koi but nothing stupidly expensive buy them small and let them grow to stupidly expensive. " HOPING"

I had 2 butterfly koi I got at Wal-Mart. They were in with the goldfish so only paid $1.25 each. Both grew to over 3'. My oldest I now have is about 2'.

I too have koi that have grown to be huge while others seemed to have stopped growing.

I don't know, maybe it's the different breeds?

I remember someone here wanted to build a pond that was a circle with an island in the middle.
It was a cool idea, but the waterway around the island was too narrow for a full grown koi to even turn around.
So, be aware. Koi can get huge and they need lots of space.
I think you are right. I have 12 koi that I bought when they were 6 months old. I have had them now for 12 years . They have been fed high end food with a lot of treats since they were little. The Asagi has only reached 18" where as the Tancho and Gin Rin are 24". Some of the others are 18" - 24" also and some near 30". I do think it is the breed.
