It looks best when the steam is rolling off of it but my camera on phone is not good enough to show the steam. It steams enough that it looses about an inch of water per night

Wow, that is a lot of evaporation!

I only got to see it steam like that a couple of times I am going to figure out a way this year to hold heat in maybe with a solar blanket or something

Definitely a plastic cover or something similar will help keep the heat in and your power bill lower!

What is the coldest that cichlids can stand? I'd like to add some to my pond but don't need the expense of heating it.

Depends on what kind most user 70s but my 2 Texas cichlids can handle down to 55

But Texas cichlids are very territorial and aggressive so they will kill most other fish if they can't defend themselves
