Ordered my lumber today, 44 4x4x8ft timbers for my above ground pond. 5/8" rebar 8 pieces, 5 ft each. Hope to get started tomorrow. Planning on 8'x8'x3' deep, should be close to 1400 gallons.

any pointers will be well taken

I have no real mosquito problem, think I have smacked one this year. As long as your water is moving and you have fish, frogs etc. you should not have an issue with skeeters.

Bug zappers also zap good bugs, I don't use them.

I put a few goldies in my lotus pond to eat any that decided to breed, now that pond is full of tadpoles too.

I did a half in half out pond w/4x4 pressure treated 12 x 5 x 3 deep water level 40" total wood stack around 1200 gallons I used 3 4" lag bolts into each post counter sunk and staggered the ends to give it more strength used siding insulation on the inside to prevent any damage to the liner

My 4x4x8's were delivered today all 44 of them. Planning to start building tomorrow. Thinking I might want to make a rectangle. Anyway I ordered the lumber from a local lumber yard, the quality is so much better than Home Depot or Lowe's. The best part is that they are all straight and I did not have to rummage thru a 100 4x4's to find 44 good ones. Free delivery as well, where as with Home Depot I would have had to rented one of their pick-up trucks to get the stuff home. I'm happy !!!

Debating whether I should do the 8x8 square or an 8x6 rectangle

Any suggestions will be appreciated and if anyone is on Long Island and wants to help out let me know. I'll have plenty of beer on hand.;)

Cut all the half-lap joints for the bottom course of 4x4's. just need to chisel a little bit to smooth them out. Need to pick up some PL adhesive, will lay the foundation course tomorrow.
