It’s been a few weeks but these tiny bugs have thoroughly invaded my lily pads and other plants but I have zero clue what they could be. They don’t really seem to do much of anything but I really just like them lol. Does anyone have any idea as to what they might be?? Are they harmful to the plants?? How can I get rid of them??

Aquatic aphids. Yes, they are harmful to the plants. They suck sap out of leaves in lotus, lilies, frog bit, duckweed, water lettuce, cattails--and also plum and cherry trees.

People recommend spraying them off. I have found this only marginally helpful, as they can survive under water for quite a while (the hairs on their bodies trap air bubbles). They simply swim back to the plant.

But I don't really no what else to do. I've been picking mine off and squishing them by hand--but I caught them early.

We had some of these this summer. I hoed them off and the fish ate them!
