Bad smell from new pond

Hi an welcome Londonpondtrier, have you had a conciderable amount of rain lately, you may have a drain backing up? Just saying

Thank you! I followed the advice from
this board and took out the barley, emptied all the water out and refilled from the tap. No smell
anymore. I think it was the wretched barley. The water is much cleaner now without the barley than with.

Do you water your house plants from the tap?
Like most people, the answer would be yes.

So your tap water should be fine and since you dont have fish, the initial chlorine spike shouldn't be a concern. The chlorine will dissipate on it's own in a pretty short period of time.

as long as there's no fish; if fish are present, then of course use the dechlor as some water supplies have chloramines, which last a lot longer before dissipation.
