How long do you leave the barley straw bail in the ponds or when do take them out

How long do you leave the barley straw bail in the ponds or when do take them out

I put some of that in my pond a long time ago and hung it in a netted bag by my waterfall for good movement. As far as I know it's still in there only it must be all rotted away by now. https://www.grassrootspondandgarden.com/barley-straw-pond-treatment/

I use hay baled on my property instead of the more expensive hard to get barley. These are 1500-pound bales of hay, and I leave them in a pond permanently. It helps greatly with clarity, algae, and provides great habitat for fish.

In a micro pond, I understand a 1500-pound bale is totally out of the question. But the same process applies...put the barley in and leave it germanely would be my approach.
