i have some in my pond and in aquatic planters. my advice is to just plant them in a pot of dirt and put them no more than 2in under water. i use gravel on the top of the dirt to help keep the soil from floating up. if introduce it slowly and you shouldnt have a problem with the dirt floating!

I've got some potted in the pond, and some in floating planters. They don't tolerate much water over their crowns - my gardening book says less than six inches. Mine are about 2-3 inches below the surface for the ones potted in the pond. Mine are growing in regular soil with pea gravel mixed in, but apparently bare root in pea gravel works well. They really spread and have a big root system - beware. I plan to put some in the bog garden (which will be pea gravel) when I finally get it done.
