@mrsclem show us what you've got and we'll help you decide! I mean, we won't be helping with any of the actual work, but we can definitely do our part with opinions - haha!

We closed our bog the year before I was able to rehome the koi. As we shoveled load after load of gravel out....we looked at each other and said " We ain't getting any younger !" LOL

I tried the plant only pond . It ended up getting destroyed by snails! Added a dozen feeder goldfish. They multiplied but then disappeared due to a couple of snakes. Still have about a dozen.

Might I suggest sunfish / pumpkins or bluegill. They will self maintain a healthy population though not before over crowding but easy to maintain with a worm on a hook and they are some fine fish fry. Here is AL'S take . Yes, many freshwater sunfish species eat algae, though it's not their primary food source. They will consume algae, especially when animal food is scarce. Some sunfish, like bluegill and pumpkinseed, primarily eat insects, small fish, and crustaceans, but algae can also be part of their diet. Sunfish, like the bluegill and green sunfish, are known to eat algae.
