I have found I don't believe in the Heron decoy, Both times I got attacked I had it out. It's starting to make me think they draw them more than chase them away.

Yep, same experience. Ive seen a real heron sitting right next to a plastic one as if they where chatting lol. Pity I was too late to get my camera out. I had also tried stringing shiny stuff (little mirrors) to the trees, but that didnt seem to work either. Fishing lines is what seems to work perfectly for me (and they are damn near invisible to humans), but YMMV.
