Hi everyone my wife and I bought our place about a year ago and it has a pond already but last summer we had lots of problems with blue heroines and hair alge so I have decided to redo it. Currentley the pond is 6 x 18 and approxt 2.5 ft deep at the deep end. I have done a ton of research on my own and I know I'm on the right path.

I want to expand it to 10 x 22 and 5ft deep at bottom drains and the rough volume of 8,300gal ish. I know all my current stuff is too small and I'm trying to decide what to buy based on budget. Bottom pond 5ft deep to a water fall height 4ft high 18 inches wide ish. I need some advice of what gear I should use. I have a pondmaster 3600 that I was going to reusue im my skimmer box. The idea is to set it up with a decent filtration so the maintiance will be less than last year. We are also putting a floating foutiann

I have no idea about pump size, filter?

My plan is to have 2 bottom drains, 1 current jet, 1 skimmer a 2 tear waterfall.

If anyone has any ideas/recomendations I would greatley appreciate it. If anone knows how to protect my fish that would be great too. We have tried the decoy, scarecrow sprinkler and the bird is well seasoned in cleaing out peoples ponds nets are ugly.

I really appreciate everyones time.

Hi Newbie pond guy, you may want to throw something in introductions and reference your question here. It seems that even the administrators didn't see it. Good luck with your pond and hope you enjoy the forum. Also my suggestion is to stay away from concrete and stick with a pond liner. There are too many headaches with concrete not being sealed properly.

Your minimal pond should be 6000 gph this is before you figure head pressure.
Tell us about the filters you researched. With 2BD's you'll need 3 jets or TPR's
Let us know what your max budget will be. Filter aren't cheap.

I was thinking of a Savio pond skimmer so I can re-use my pondmaster 3600 submersible pump still. For filters I was thinking of Aqua UV Ultima II 10,000 filter. I was thinking that two bottom drains due to the length of the pond 21 Ft. From there I was thinking a sequence 6100 Gal external pump. Lie I was saying I'm open to ideas I want to this to be nice, low maintenance and more a less low algae content unlike last year I spent a ton of time in my waders my net and my arms and hose mucking her out. i also have a brand new suntetra UV filter. My budget give or take is around 4-5K ish...I'm willing to spend for long term enjoyment but I have to be realistic I'm not going pro and showing my fish.

Have you thought of building your own? I use a large bog as my filter, but from what I have read the skippy type and the doc type filter do a great cleaning job and are cheap to build. Somewhat easy also.

Look into the diy section, they have instructions posted there.

Everything looks good but have you looked at the Advantage 10 bead filter it has a blower that really cleans it.
I would use aerated BD's, 3 tpr's and a UV light.
Don't buy the liner till you have the hole dug to be more accurate on the measurements.

So you think that a 6300 gph pump would be big enough for the bd's and filter set up. Not sure how to rig the tprs. The pond is going to be rectangular shaped ish should the tprs use the return from the skimmer 3600 gph pump. I was hoping to use my suntetra 36 watt uv that I already bought what do you think.

Thanks again
