Hi David,

Sorry it failed... looking at the pic though it looks as if the pipe has had pressure pulling on it from one end or the other. If there was a weakness in the pipe then it could have split like that. If it's just buried then it's difficult to see how you get that kind of spiral break.

I'm using that stuff as the feed for my main pump. It's been in for 3 years now with no problems. I buried drainpipes in the ground between the pond and the filter and fed this pipe through those. Also made sure i had slack on the pipe so none of the joints are stressed.

Maybe this helps.

cheers,

Andy.

Flex PVC is easy to find here. It's used for plumbing hot tubs.
I haven't seen the black version before, but both the black and white are UV resistant.

Sissy, maybe try a place that sells and services hot tubs.

The only drawback is that I use schedule 40 PVC for my aquarium plumbing and I find that the flex PVC is a pretty tight fit. It doesn't slide easily into the rigid fittings.

thx for replies; I'll still try PVC since it's all above ground. Good thing above ground is any problems can be detected easily. PVC is very inexpensive so any failures won't break piggy. I thought about this and I'll paint the PVC except near where it's connections are made. In those places, I think I'll wrap tape around it to protect from UV and so I can easily re-make connections if I want to.

I'm thinking that since the corrugated massive break occurred, it has something to do with the extreme arctic temps we've been having here in virginia. It's so danged cold and windy our beagles didn't even venture outside much from the doggy door

When weather warms, I'll be sure & post pictures; if it all goes awry, maybe lessons learned can help someone else
