Filter is it possible

My pond have a DIY filter (see picture) its a tote tool box converted to a filter is it possible if I shut the the filter that that the water inside the filter box will be sucked up thru the in tube and drain the filter. am trying to determine if I have a leak in the tote box. I shut down the filter yesterday and today I noticed the filter tote box was empty no water.

Yes, your filter will empty if the pump is shut off. The water forms a vacuum.

add a tee with a screw on cap to the outflow pipe and open this cap whenever you shut your filter down. The water won't siphon back this way.

I use my filter to grow plants and it really does help the water quality .I just have to root trim the plants every 2 months or so
