Start with 4-5 fish, let the pond go through its new pond cycles for a month or more. There are different opinions of the inches of fish per gallon. For a 300 or so gallon pond stick with 10-15, plenty of fish, it will give them room to swim, help you keep the water clean. And you will get fry as they grow. imho

Pee Wee is cute. He is around a year old? My girl is about 7 years old, rescued her from the pound a couple years ago.

only 2 Fan Tails? That doesn't seem like much as far as fish are concerned.

Thanks Addy, that is about the number I was thinking.

I had 4 sort of large fish at the beginning of the summer, now have a hundred or so............but lots of room. They love to procreate. Next year less fry will make it as there are more fish around to eat them.

I will probably start will small fish. Less financial impact and less bio load. win win situation. :)

My "large" ones were ones that made it though the winter, They were maybe 4-5 inches when they started having kids........

Well My LFS has some shubs that look pretty nice and they are about 4". I wonder if they same will happen in this pond.

One pump for filtration and an airstone is probably adequete. I Like to use a small Harbor Freight pump for additional circulation in my 55 and 85 gallon tanks. The fish love the current and it keep the bottom clean.
