I had the same question CW. The local river here has plenty of logs, but stumps are another matter.

Every area has stump dumps . But I didn't get a one from that source I kept my eyes open Everywhere I went. But be ready stumps are a battle. I had to split them into movable pieces. All the stumps are hollowed out in the middle. Split into like 5 pieces then screwed back together again. They are a focal point but they aren't easy. I did find several dealers online surprisingly some real nice stuff with a good price tag to But they could be shipped right to your door. One company was in main , north carolina and Florida. OH and there was texas mesquite that had some realy cool stuff but again very pricey mine cost nothing but effort and a couple Long sawsall blades.

Pond looks better and better every year. I am still hunting around to find a piece of wood to do a waterfall effect through or over. Since I did the pond addition I found a couple more pieces of logs, to stick in the pond, but need/want more, as having logs and stumps incorporated into and around the pond landscape really naturalizes it, and the turtles use them to bask on.

Need to get back on doing rock work at my job(been doing pier work), that is where I find a lot of stumps and cool looking logs, etc. as we are usually doing rock walls around eroding hillsides on the rivers.

Since two posts came up about tree stumps I thought I'd take a few shots of all the wood around the pond. Imo the pond would not look as natural as it does without them

My favorite is the one with water coming out. I have a small one I’m thinking of turning into a small waterfall along my stream as well. I got access to a new area to hunt last fall and the lady has a nice stump that is just the right size for my big corner. I’m trying to come up with the courage to ask for it. When people grant you access to hunt around here it’s a big deal, so I don’t want to overstay my welcome!

Ever since I saw your uses for stumps, I have been keeping an eye out for them. But then I realized that if I found the perfect one, I couldn't move it! I finally got a couple of small pieces of Lake Erie driftwood. I will have to be happy with that.

I used a cordless sawsall to split them into movable pieces. My biggest one was a monster to move even in pieces. So it's more then just finding a good looking stump it was also finding one that was hollowed out by age. Following the already worn and splitting areas or where the cuts would hid the best. They don't need to be huge I have had more compliments on the 6 inch wide tree stump that's at the patio, The last in the photos above. Here's a couple pictures to help explain better how to do it. You can see the cuts but they are in the wrinkles of the tree and I used 3 inch screws to put them back together. Longer screws would have been nice but I was in a hurry to see the hard work in place.

So much there to be inspired by! Wood is often the missing element in a pond, and once you see it incorporated beautifully, you realize that every pond needs it!
