Could you lay a fine screened piece of material over the top of the pond when the rains come just to see what collects on it. Maybe hold it down w/ rocks or something. That way at least you have proof of where it is coming from and maybe someone can diagnose exactly what it is and what it's made of.

Do you live in an industrial area? We had a case here where a metal-plating plant was spewing some kind of chemical into the air, and after a rain all the cars in the parking lot would be covered in a reddish-brown residue. The stuff would eventually eat the paint off the cars. John

what part of the uk are you ? must be near sand pits or something like that ... i would try and fix a shade sail or something over it i think thats the only way your going to solve your problem, keep emptying pond is not going to help your fish it stresses them to much

Just to add - minimum age of pond is 14 years - was here when we moved in.
Never had this problem till around 2 years ago.
Re tarp idea - just yesterday with the wind we've had a table parasol (closed) blow away and completely dissapear out of the grounds no-where to be seen (no joke), maybe next door. A tarp will not last 2 minutes here.

Darn no clue, is there anybody that you can call i.e. environmental that can tell you what is the cause of the stuff? Then maybe could figure out a way to fight it.

wow bet that is it, good research superdaft. That would explain it with some reason behind sand rain.

dont get sand this far inland....strange how sand can travel thou--s-a-n-d-s of miles before dumping it load. welcome to the sand dance forum any budding "max wall" out there. whiskey from the uk, says hi to nunrggy hope you come up with a solution , plastic dome or covers during overnight just incase of rain, wooden shutters with hinges concertina style, so you could close at night and open during day. just a few ideas..........good luck. :umbrella:
