This is actually the time of year to buy quality fish. I have three new koi coming in the spring. Got huge discounts from a quality dealer who brings in nothing but Japanese koi. He'll hold them until spring . You can even pay in instalments it you need to UNTILL ITS TIME TO SHIP.

100% ready for spring over here... I just have a feeling the worst is yet to come for us winter weather wise. We've been spoiled thus far. Had to fill the pond yesterday - no ice on the pond plus the ultra-dry winter air just sucks up the water.

Every year I get about a dozen or more baby Koi. some of which are impressive. So I'm going to go in reverse. Give the koi some breeding mops and see if we can't get some more good lookers. The little deep orange fish below is one.

The only issue is for every koi added that are close to 20" at least 2 have to be rehomed.

My favorite is the first. So different.
How many large koi do you limit your pond to?

It's more how much of a change do I see in algae growth that determines how many. Right now I have 13 that are a foot or larger two of which at 20 plus. Then there's ten little guys 6 niches or less so with the new guys 14 over a foot 3 20's and 3 18's
There's still a few fish from the original stocking of the pond that need to be removed and they are close to a foot a yellow butterfly
A tangerine butterfly
A light blue kiko kuru
A brass gin ring and a half dozen babies from a year or two ago.
