I want to build one but I going to use bigger lumber. We have a guy here that will cut any size you want. I was thinking 6 x 6 and 2 x 6.

Thanks for the comments, and as for the size of the wood i wish i had gone bigger myself but the cost of the thicker wood was too much to pay.

I can understand the cost of lumber these days but the heavier you go and the more supports and braces the stronger the structure will be .6x6 and 2x6 would be better if cedar or redwood but pt wood would be better 2x8 and lag bolts locking it in from both sides keeps the sway out of it and the chance of warping is reduced greatly .The notched boards on the top help a lot from any movement also and great suggestion before notched wood is put up all notches should be treated first and the tops should be treated with a preservative as they have a tendency to dry out fast from sun and can rot faster from water

I may try pipes cemented in the ground and put up a shade sail over my pond I have been trying to get one done over my morning room deck first and then my bedroom deck next .As soon as this other house closes I will have to be going over there a lot ,but still need to get things done here too .I need to get other new waterfall done on this pond .Pics of what you are doing help you look at it with a different eye .Wish I had done pics of this pond but did not have a digital camera then .
