Hmmm … I don’t know what mine would be considered. The bog is at one end of the pond basically the same level, but it’s just high enough for the water to spill over into the main pond… picture below.
Left end is bog. Basically just divided from the main pond but a wall under the liner. Would that be considered above ground or in ground.. I’m guessing in ground

I would say in ground. Both of my ponds are mostly above ground. We were not able to dig down so we built up with wood.
