The lady that bought the ones I had said they will explode the pod in some and go all over .She puts a mesh bag over hers when she see's the pod swelling up .She said it doesn't always happen that way ,but if it is really hot and then cool at night it can happen.I don't know for sure it happens to all them by what she says .Don't quite understand all the explanation she was giving me .Maybe some one here knows better .Some she said will just hold there seeds others the heat and humidity can effect them.I guess some one will tell us if it happens or not

Gosh watching could be tedious I wonder though she may keep them in a hot house ,she said she has hundreds growing right now but are not ready to sell .She told if the flowers picked they stay inside and get hard ,but she said they produce better flowers if left on until the end

I am just letting mine sit, will be fun to see what happens.

I also read, have not tired, that if raised from seed, it is a year later before they bloom.

Kathy the lady from the garden center said the longer they grow the better the blooms and she never sells one that is younger than 2 or 3 years depends on the variety .I can't wait now to see what happens to these

I bought two plants.. and both didn't survive.. the seller kept saying she'd give me another.. but that would just mean, I would have killed three plants. :-( Maybe lotus is not for me.

You have to get your Lotuses started in early spring, unless you get one all ready started and potted up and then you can drop it in your pond. They do bloom the first year, all of mine got divided last year and they bloomed.
