So since adding the cover the ice has never formed any kind of layers. But this "polar vortex" with -32 wind chill temps changed that. You can see through the peep hole a thin layer of ice has formed. Except where the aerator is generating bubbles.

I have same set up over my pond i installed in Oct. It was great for leaves but the -40 c we have been getting I am guessing pond close to solid ice at 2 feet.
