Well sort of...

I have always wanted to grow lotus and have been knocking around ideas. Well I was at a local pot shop the other day and I found this beauty...

My idea is to fill it up about 2/3rds with kitty litter, then add water from my pond and plant lotus in it. The pot is 3 feet across and 2 feet deep.

I also bought this one...

It is 28" tall and 18" across. Same idea, I think I will fill it with kitty litter, pond water and put a papyrus in it.

They can live in the middle of my other pots that will be planted with tropicals and other annuals.

I used silicone to seals the holes in the bottom and they hold water so I think I should be good to go.

Anyone see any problems with this plan or have suggestions?

BTW, the pot guy at the pot shop also belongs to a local pond club and told me he has done the same thing with these pots before. He told me to just fill the holes at the bottom with silicone.

Every time I mention to family and friends I stopped by the pot store they get odd looks on their faces. I have to remind them this is Utah, not Colorado LOL

This pot store is really cool :) I love stopping by there. It is all outdoors minus his kiln shack. It takes up about an acre and is completely filled with pots. Locally owned small business guy. He makes fire pits out of pots, ponds out of pots and then of course uses them for planting too. Really neat place and just down the street from our house. I like to just wonder around the place and check things out.

Plus, he sells pots for about half the price as I have found them anywhere.

I need more pots...

I need more rocks...

I need more water....

I need more plants...

   Hello my name is Liz and I am an addict.

Well we got it DECRIMINALIZED a few years ago (nice fancy term - under an oz is a $100 ticket), and we just passed medical use, so I say it's a matter of time for Mass. I dont even smoke it, but will keep voting in favor of making it legal. It's a damn herb. Let the folks who want it, have it! How often do you hear of folks ODing on weed??? YOU DON'T. How often do you hear of a stoned person turning violent? YOU DON'T. Do we all hear of folks it HELPS???? YES. What is wrong with this picture???

Holy cow! 289 and 50 shipping! That 2 feet by 3 feet pot cost less than 100 at the pot shop and I just hauled it up the street in my pickup.

I sealed the holes, let is cure for 2 days then added some litter and water. So far so good.
Really doesn't matter if it holds 100% or not if the pot will be sitting in water, if it leaks the kitty litter will seal it for the most part, I've even used a plastic bag on the bottom to cover the hole and it worked fine. Personally I like using water plant material for the last two inches for the lotus to grow in, makes splitting them up much easier when it becomes to crowded. If not planting media then I mix 50% river sand in. this just helps when it comes time to split as well because you can simply wash the media away from the roots. I prefer having water moving across the top of the media so it doesn't go stagnant. just a small pump or flow is all that is needed and you'll see a big difference if how full the plant becomes. Once it's going good like a lot of fert. Something like lily tabs or plant sticks work best so they don't over leach the pond with nutrients. BTW, that's a great deal on the 36" pots! I sell pots at work and the cheapest 36" pot I sell is close to $200 with some like the one you bought going for as much as $350. Our wholesale cost is more than what you paid!

That fountain in the last pic is 10 ft tall and just over 10 ft around and they will assemble it at your house and deliver it on a trailer here .That thing is huge I had the country looking one in NJ and used to keep goldfish in the bottom part ,this one is more tuscan looking .My son got mine on his big trailer and we used 2 fork lifts from the ford plant to place it ..I am about an hour from concrete world .The big giant clay pots are 20 dollars .I used to have one but sad to say when we were building the front porch it got broke .Have to get another one but I want the alligator bench first That is 35 dollars now they lowered the price on it .I love spending hours there just looking at there stuff .They have everything and then there is the building that is over 2 thousand sq.ft. that has all the little stuff and home decorator stuff

Here are some better pictures of the pot collection. My husband and I stopped by a local grocery store that sells pots out front for a month each spring and picked up three new pots. They were a great deal. The two red pots and the orangy colored one with the handles were less than $100 for all three. :)

Here they are:

And this is my plan for each pot
