I put very little salt in the pond for the first time a few weeks ago when one of my koi was not looking his best. That type of tree grows in the swamps in the south and is used to water, I bought it from a aquatic garden and that is how the sell them in the water.

wow thats some tree and the pics are great ,never saw one here so guess it would not survive here with the winters we have had the last 2 years .

I am in zone 6, it does fine and the water at the bottom of the pond probably doesn't drop below 35-40 degrees. My pond freezes over for weeks or this year months at a time and the tree does fine. The tree does lose its leaves in the fall just like any other decidous tree but then pops out in the spring.

interesting since I am farther south and zone 7 should work maybe in the new pond I may try one .

Beautiful trees they are and they get humongous! Hope you have a nice place selected for it when it starts to get bigger :)

You are probably right, she keeps getting more brave. She now walks across the big waterfall rock which is usually very slippery with algae on it, not sure how she hasn't gone in yet.

brave girl you have there but boy is she going to learn the hard way .She may like the dip in the nice cool pond on 100 degree day though
