I also look at water quality, smell, fish activity.. I've gotten really good at judging this through the years... but if you asked I couldn't tell you what my ppm were.. or that the nitrates are too high.. I judge by the health of my fish.

Thank you Taherrman4.. I'm going to order that I think.. anyone else have a recommendation.. And Taherrman4, is this pretty accurate and easy to use? And you all can all me "john" :) if thats easier.

John very easy to use takes about 15 minutes for everything. You only have 4 test tubes so you have to wash them out to do all the tests, but no big deal.

Same kit I use, for the money one of the best on the market. there are better ones that are more accurate but they can cost many times more! I also use the GH and KH tests they offer. They run about $10 each and are very useful for finding out if the Hardness is dropping so you can adjust before the PH starts fluctuating.
