Here is our pond from the dog leg, the head groundskeeper finally ripped
out all the yellow flag iris on the shelves and I like it much better. This is from June 1.
Ignore all the pebbles sand and rocks still on the "bare bottom pond' we
haven't cleaned it out yet. A lot of it is from washing in over the winter and
some of it is from the koi digging in the pots.

This one is from June 15th at night, it'a a little shaky cause I was trying to walk
along the deck. I need more practice.

This is from June 1...You can see the biological pond in the back, and the 4' x 5'
rocked beach section in the front.

Thanks Gentlemen.

RXman, our big koi are 13, 12, 11 years old. We also have some young
koi born is our pond and two orfs.

I just learned this morning how to splice two movies together. It's as easy as
falling off a log. Now I have to learn how to clip to make the movies shorter.
Here is the direct link to utube, so that you can view the movie larger.

Thank you koiguy, for the nice landscaping comment. We have a few secrets we can
share on pond landscaping if anyone is interested.

Don't mind all the sand and pebbles currently on the pond floor. The koi knocked
the lily off the milk crate that's covering the BD, and all the sand spilled out :fish:
Plus the rocks in the beach...they pick them up in their mouths, roll them around
and spit them out where they want them. Even my 'imagine' rock in the beach,
they flip over and move it around, and make me hunt for it

Now this is an example of a real pond with natural surroundings and nothing artificial showing. I applaud the effort, :regular_waving_emot love and care that went into this very inspiring masterpiece.

Please share more about the construction and volume of your garden pond.

What editing software did you use to splice your videos?

Dr Dave, The camera is a flip HD camcorder. It's small fits into your shirt pocket
and comes with all the software to edit, splice, add music, titles, etc. Records up to
2 hours, (no video card) plugs into the usb port for loading. The average price is about
149.00 to 179.00 ... I'ts a must for all pond people. It is so simple to use and edit movies.

Here it is loading the movies onto my laptop. It's 2 1/4" wide x 4 1/2" long.
the viewing screen on the other size is a nice size too.

Re: the pond volumn and construction...It's about 2500 gallons with a biological
pond located 18 feet in the back. We started out in 1997 with the typical kidney shaped
pond and then added the 200 gallon biological pond in the back.

the ponds are
connected via underground tubing. The main pond has a BD, the water leaves the
main pond, travels underground to the bio pond, spills in over the waterfall, travels through
the bio pond getting scrubbed by all the vegetation in it's path, then exits the bio pond
on the end, travels back underground and spills back into the main pond from under
the small wood dock in the back.
Then the process starts all over again. We do not use a uv light or any chemicals.
Just keeping the filter tubs clean is all that is necessary
to maintain clear water.

We also have a skimmer located under the dock, that we just use in early spring and fall, as we are
surrounded by large oak trees.
Also, in 1998 we added another section of the pond which we call the dog leg. It's
6 ft wide x 13 ft. long. The koi love to swim and enjoy the extra swimming area...

I am having some issues with my laptop this morning, so I'll come back to add the skimmer photo.

Ok, I couldn't edit my post cause my 10 minutes expired...
This is the skimmer location, it's a DIY, as is our entire filter system.

also if you notice the pond has a 'shelf' around the entire pond. The shelf in about
12" wide and 15 to 16" deep all around. The shelf is piled entirely with rocks up to the
water level, thus there is no liner showing. The rocks you see below the butterfly koi
(in front of the small waterfall) are on a shelf. It takes a lot of rocks to do this but
the result is a very natural look with not liner showing and it also provides a shelf
for adding plants...just remove some rocks plant a pot, or plant bare root and then fill
in on top all around with rocks and it looks natural.
In front of the angel statuary is where the pond liner is pieced.

This is the shelf....an artist friend did the drawings...

This is the pond drawing of the layout...

This is the actual footprint of the pond...the bio pond is also visable in the upper right
of the photo.

Oh OK...I went to look for this photo...
This is where the new section of the pond (the dog leg) is pieced --directly
under the butterfly. I was standing on the small wood dock when I took
this photo ... so on the left is the dog leg (which is about 2 foot deep)
and the right is the deep part of the main pond (which is about 3 1/2 feet deep)

The reason I am mentioning the depth is because, here is the way Cliff did it.

First he dropped the water level down about 15" ... then dug down just about
12" where he was going to be pieced. The rest of the dog leg is 2 foot deep.
Then he pieced the liner using dupont silicone, tape, and also reinforced
the seam with strips of cut liner, (he siliconed the liner strips to each side, like
applying bandaids. Then we waited the recommended drying time, I think it was 3 days...
then we filled the pond back up. All the time we worked on piecing the dog leg to the main
pond, the fish remainded in the pond....
The reason the head guy came up with this plan, is so that if the seam
(where it is pieced) ever sprung a leak the pond would only drop down 12" and the fish would be safe.
I hope this is clear.

This photo is from July 04
