Seal liner to boulder.

I have a prominent boulder in my yard that I am building a small pond around the front of it. I would like to keep the boulder face showing under the water so I was thinking I would seal a liner lower on the rock, or line it with concrete and paint liquid rubber on the concrete and the lower part of the submerged portion of the boulder. Anyone have experience doing this? I’m open to any suggestions.

I would build a huge pond tho but that's just me
