The rabbits, so far, have left them alone. But the deer came through and ate the sunflowers down along the fence, they just wiped out all the leaves. Then came up and nipped off my lettuce. Left all the lilies and flowers alone.

Your pond is covering very nicely, all looks beautiful.............shame on those deer, they ate some of my Cherry tree and I think they nibbled on the Peach tree also cuz peaches are missing that weren't even ripe. My dirt lilies are getting buds but not open yet. Banana tree is trying to grow and other things are blooming:

love dianthus, smells so sweet. Great flowers jw! thanks for sharing

nana tree in washington? wow, don't think they would survive here in maryland

Here is ours at one of our places in florida...........

They are just little green things right now real hard, the people down there say they get a little yellow and are not real sweet. Next trip down in august, maybe they will be ripe.

they have cold hardy nanas and they grow even in NJ if you protect them .I had one up there and when I moved a friend dug it up and it is still growing in her yard . She wraps it in burlap and puts leaves in it to insulate it .But these don't get nanas

Those are the real McCoy banana's addy that you have. The kind we have here are hardy and they are called Musa Bajoo and they look nice and tropical and come back each year. They freeze to the ground but come back from the roots. I think you could grow it where you live w/ mulch over it in the winter. I got mine at Lowes or H-Depot on sale of course

Hardy Banana Plant

Musa 'Bajoo'

Hardy zones 4 - 9
Height: Up to 12'
Planting Depth: This plant needs "wet feet, dry shoulders". Do not submerge.
Thrives in full sun to partial shade

If mine ever has babies come up from the roots again I can send you some to try. It did once but they all died but one cuz it was in a bad spot. So far no babies again but then I moved it from one spot to another so might take a couple years to re-establish itself.

Kinda reminds me of some tropical swordfish I have seen in the pet stores w/ that metallic look to them. Cool looking!

I tried one of Musa banana trees several years ago and it did not survive the winter, I even mulched it with straw. What could have happened is since I put straw around it that it rotted not sure though.
