Saw this idea in some public garden where they took an old cracked bird bath and made a moss planter out of it. I did this with mine last year but the raccoons destroyed it this spring.

Has anyone ever had any success at making their own moss?

I've just heard that you can collect some moss and dip a paint brush in buttermilk and spread it (buttermilk) on the stone and lay the moss on the rock or any kind of stone and the moss will thrive on it.

Buttermilk is a bacteria and that why you use it .It has cultures in it .I just put moss in an old blender with buttermilk and it grows great .I just brush it on keep it damp and it takes off .

I have heard of using buttermilk, but not blending moss in with it. neat idea.
