Hi all...I found a great guy to build my pond here in Southwest Florida...Can someone who lives in this oven please recommend aquatic plants that can live under an oak? They will get dappled sun....

Blue rush
obediant can survive but prefers more sun
pickerel rush can take light to partial
moss, moss and more moss
many of the taros
I'd also look at like african violets etc.

Lost my Husband to cancer three years ago (we were married 36 years) We were living in a cabin way back in the woods in the Adirondacks...Couldn't stay on my own (we were way back and I am too old now) so wound up moving to Virginia by my Son and then Florida by my daughter. I am doing the best I can at adapting...Thank you for the planting tips GB:)

I left the oven of AZ and moved back to the bouncing weather of MD

My move was driven by my first husband passing, came back to where I was raised.

My pond in the AZ oven was deep, 4.5 feet to 5 feet, had two huge water falls, the water stayed in the range of 86f. The deepness help keep the water cooler and the waterfalls.

Virginia was hot as hell in the Summer...hotter and more humid than here!

Native Lizard-tail (Saururus cernuus) will do well in a dappled shady situation Florida, as willl its exotic cousin Chameleon Plant (Houttuynia cordata). For tropical drama, consider Alocasia spp. and Taro (Colocasia), as well as various Gingers (Alpinia, Hedychium, etc.). Floaters to try might include Water-lettuce (Pistia stratiotes) and Water-hyacinth (Pontederia crassipes, formerly Eichhornia crassipes), but don't expect flowers; also Duck-fern (Azolla spp.).

Maryland is quite often more humid than Florida and our Florida place is 10 minutes from the ocean. With higher temperatures and heat index.
