Are there any items that one should keep on hand for an emergency? I know one should keep a back up pump.
But any other common issues that may come up that I should be prepared for.

I'm still a newbie myself, so always learning.

Extra bottles of de-chlorinator -- in case you have to add water back due to a leak...

Extra pump [you've mentioned]

Maybe somewhere to move the fish if needed, like a large kiddie pool or stock tank.

Air pump & tubing.

Some on here have given a recommended "first aid kit" so if someone will re-post that information, it would be helpful. I don't know how much "first aid" is a necessary EMERGENCY item, though. Depends on the emergency and how much you know about what to do.

We keep some pvc and those rubber connections around in case we need to swap out a pump. Have extra pumps in the basement, but you always need to redo the plumbing to put on in, unless it is identical to the one you are replacing.

I don't keep much else around.

Our well water is very soft and acidic. I use the crushed oyster shells (put in the bog where water flows a lot) to raise the water hardness and help stabilize the ph.
Peroxide is good for getting rid of some algae, spraying water fall rocks to clean them (I just brush off the algae).
It is good for cleaning items too.

Baking soda is good if your ph is low, helps bring it up. I used it when I first built my pond, but with our low ph water I needed to get it more stable therefore the oyster shells.

stainless steel hose clamps and I keep extra hose just in case but so far sump pump hose has held up for years and figure if it works for sump pumps for 10 years or more ,cheaper works :cheerful:
