That’s clever. The banana trees will die back to the ground each winter in MD, right?
Yes they do die back to almost ground level. I stump them and bury the stump in mulch, then next spring they will shoot back up out of the stump. They grow extraordinarily fast, many of mine once established for a few years reach close 20’ tall in a growing season.

Shot of ones I moved 2 years ago that where about 3’ tall, now about 15’ tall.

And the ones I moved last year are about 10’ tall that are around the bog.

Some additional pond shots from today of pasty the turtle(named for obvious reasons).

And one of probably one of my favorite koi (the multicolored one not the goldfish) in the pond that is about 6-8” yearling, don’t know what combo of my fish herd produced it but it’s cool looking. One of my joys of pond keeping is to see what new cool looking little ones pop up each year.

new addition to the pond, stump time…. Benefits to the work I do, constantly come across interesting things to add to the pond. Just have to carry it over and bolt it back together, have to drill holes first though.

Added a 14-16 “ albino sterlet to the pond, a couple weeks ago. Will see if I can keep it alive as it needs to be fed multiple times a day, all winter as well. Hard to get pics of it during the day as it stays in the deeper parts of the pond.

Tree stumps are the gold necklace to a pond. They are what really makes the pond look like it was always there.
