I use uv's in my stock tank and find nothing wrong with using one and if it helps the better to help you figure out what else is going on so you can protect the fish .In my pond I use koi clay as it binds to it and sends it to the filter .But aeration and water movement on top and under the water are your friends .Even with heavy rains I am clear

A UV light may in fact be a Band Aid fix for Algae bloom but it does work.
We fought this for several years and finally purchased this UV light, cleared our pond in 5 days.
Our pond is roughly 2000 gallons and I chose the 55 watt UV light.

Yup - lots of people use them and love them. To me, it's just one more thing to maintain. But I have never had pea soup water, either, so I admit I may feel differently if that's what I was dealing with.

IF she can post some pics, we can help.. pea soup no biggie the batt and having the pump drop of it seams to have never failed

Sorry I had to get current pics. The pipe from the skimmer to the barrel runs underground. The top two hoses is where water exits the barrel. The larger 1 1/2” runs to the waterfall box and the smaller 1” will run to an old fashioned hand water pump. I’m hoping to hook the UV to the smaller 1” hose that will feed back to the pond.

Here are some current examples from one of my pond setups of what you can do. The first pic is a 50 gal Rubbermaid tub, drilled it and put a bulkhead in it, so it spills into a a Hatchling turtle tub then spills into the 150 gallon Bog tub in 2nd pic, which then dumps back into the 1800 gallon turtle pond.

The first pic is of nothing but water celery, (Stuff was a frozen tub of ice all winter) no Gravel nothing but water, stuff grows like crazzzzy, have to throw tons of it out ever month.

2nd pic is upflow pea gravel bog, and water dumps on top too from the 2 smaller tubs. This has water forget me not and creeping Jenny, iris in it, already had to weed back the forget me not.

Point of all this is don’t give up, you can get the pond clear using some creative and inexpensive ideas, that require not much in the way of maintenance.

How big would my big need to be for a 2100 gallon pond? That may be my next step but I’d have to do some trial and error to find the right plants.

Do you have a Natural pond or one with a liner? I am off to the nursery to find some plants! lol

Yes! I love the microbelift koi clay. It does a great job of binding things together.

I think I heard 1/3 the size - I would try a raised bed along one side with a waterfall into the pond - don't have to dig or connect liners. 12" deep.
Add a fast grower - my watercress rooted in 2 days $10 would get a significant amount... and you can eat it

Angela I see your surrounded by crops crops equal LOTS AND LOTS OF FERTILIZERS. pictures do a terrible job showing perspective but it look like there's not much of a build up to keep rains from washing into the pond. Have you seen an area where this happens ?

I would think if fertilizers got into my pond my fish would be dead. My yard is actually on an incline and the pond sits higher than the fields so I don’t think that has happened. The field is about 50 feet from the pond and about afoot lower than the pond. Good eye though!

@AngelaM - the fertilizer wouldn't necessarily kill the fish, especially if it was just overspray. But it could add enough nutrients to your pond to cause the ongoing issues you're having with green water. With your low fish load in your pond, it just doesn't make sense that you are struggling with green water.

I buy it off ebay and I buy medical grade as you can use it as a face mask for your skin or take it internally .Fertilizers that are sprayed are worse as they become air born .My neighbor has his yard done by a company that sprays liquid weed and feed and they make sure to let me know when they are hving it done .I just spread fertilizer on my yard with epsom salts and it boosts the fertilizer and helps all my plants get greener
