Greetings fellow ponderers, moved in a new home with a pond recently and found my daughter playing with a Valterra handle hidden next to the pond. Now there is a small amount of water running from this little pipe into a drain that Im fairly certain no water usually runs from even after closing the valve. Now my pond water level dropped like 4 inches. I figured this Valterra valve controls water flow/ level so I just built a small pvc rig with a cap that I can take on and off. My question I suppose is, Is that ok for me to just stop that small amount water with a pvc cap or will that break something associated with the pond?

Welcome. Can you share a picture?

To answer your question shortly: Yeah, that’s probably fine.

I imagine the valve is a kind of gate valve (knife or slice valve) that is used to isolate or drain some part of the pond or filter system. These types of valves are well known to collect debris in the seal over time and not close completely.

If you can access the inside of the valve, you can likely clean it out and return it to normal operation.
