81 man you have Summer @sissy! Do you usually get that warm this time of year? Only 54 here but still sunny. We won't be dark here till 3 more hours or so. Good you can use that dead pump for spare parts. My hubby finished fixing my pre-filter for me so now I just have to get out there and hook it up to the pump. He put a piece of pond liner in between the circle of metal and the plastic top. Tubing fits perfect and tight on that outlet pipe. Just have to wrap the matala media around it and make it stay on somehow and done. I was thinking of some kind of plastic straps or something easy to off and on for cleaning.

We usually get to the 70's but not 80's but it does happen and supposed to be the same tomorrow.

What a day! The weather was great, I believe it was as warm as its been in four months, maybe longer. Saw signs of life in my pond (frog, fish, snails), got the pond running, got my Purple Prairie Clover seeds in the mail (the last native wildflower seed I was waiting for), and had a fire as the sun disappeared.

Beautiful pic, JB!
JW, how about using long zip ties to hold the matala on your pre-filter? Then just snip them off to redo, and use another one. They are pretty cheap. You can even piggy back shorter ones to make a longer one, if that way is cheaper, which it usually is. May not look the best, but I bet your fish don't mind. ;-)
My koi are happy, coming to the surface daily to see if I have anything for them. That won't be happening for a while. Not sure the temp of the water, but it's wayyy too cold to feed them yet. I had the aerator on because I scooped out the muck, but going to turn on the water bubbler again, as the algae is really enjoying all that extra oxygen more than I want!
76 yesterday, and 43 this morning, but going up to 53. I'll take that, since it's going to be sunny all day. Winds are bad, 25 mph, but that comes with springtime, too!

We started at 51 degrees at 8 am when I went out side .Winds picked up yesterday and calmed down last night and I hope they stay calm .It says 81 degrees for today .Sun feels great and sliding doors in morning room are open .I have lots to do but my hand hurts from trimming the last of the shrubs so may take it easy today .Put new quilt batting in my filters last night and found that letting the old quilt batting dry out and then washing it is easier .

They even sell those zip ties that have a release on them so you can keep using them.I rarely see them, but you'd probably find them for cheap on ebay or something.

Up to 70 today but had errands to run so didn't get any yard or pond work done. Stopped by a local nursery that had just opened to check out blueberries and all water plants were 75%off. Scored a hardy pitcher plant, marsh mallow, creeping jenny, bloody dock and some type of grass all for $2.98! More stuff for bog and window box planters! Cold, wind and rain coming so will be inside for a couple of days. Bones getting old and don't like this weather-

Windy and cold today, don't think we even hit 40 degrees. At least the sun was out though. I have been noticing the pond fish being more active these past few days. I even saw a few fish who I haven't seen since the fall.

It snowed here yesterday:mad:. Today there's a 60% chance of rain and a high of 49. Bottom of the pond is only 40 degrees so my fish are still not moving around much.

We hit 69 yesterday, won't pass 50 today, snow tomorrow.
Pond a toasty 39 and still ice covered, but melting slowly
