Hello,

This was also my intro post, but I thought I'd ask in here because it felt like the right place...

My name is J, and I am the proud new owner of an inherited, already established garden pond...

I say new owner, but I have been here for 2 years now...

My pond is small at around the size of a snooker table and about 3 feet deep...

I love it and enjoy watching my fish every day so I want to learn the maintenance and upkeep side of things from experienced and friendly people, so I hope that I am in the right place...?

First question: What UV bulb should I go for to replace the non functioning one in my Oase Biotec 10 filter please?

Note, I mean wattage wise, unless there is something else that differs too?

Thanks for any advice...

google your filter and download / print the manual... the bulb size should be in it....or printed on the bulb. LSE enterprises on ebay has good prices. theres 2 pronge and 4 pronge bulbs. most bulb sockets / plugs are universal for their pronge number.

Thanks for the advice...

Is there a general rule of Wattage per gallon/ surface area, or is it a case of more is best?

Can you go too much and kill too many algae for instance?

Last summer my pond went quite green but it is like crystal in the winter...

Yes I think that may well help...

The surface area of my pond is 8feet by 16 feet, it has a foot wide and deep shelf all the way round, and it is 3ish feet deep...

Anyone have a calculator?

What's that in gallons please?

My guess is around 2000 gallons...

Mine goes from 5 to 1 foot deep, it is hard to get the correct amount of gallons. The only true accurate measure is a hose meter. I don't worry that much about it so not draining to refill and measure.
