Thing is I saw protesters treat men coming back from Vietnam war like they were to blame for the war so all your protest did was make them feel like dirt and only recently have they been recognized and here the men and women coming back now are treated like hero's .They are helped with a lot more than any Vet did back then .I hate protesters all together because they are making a point the wrong way costing tax payers lots of money and not helping either .They destroyed the soles of the Vietnam vets ,Sorry but my thoughts on the whole protest crap in this world .

Guess its 'thumbs down' on the Boston Tea Party.

The Federal government is responsible for the plight of many Viet Nam vets. They were given no, zero, nada, zilch assistance when they returned. I have close friends that are Nam vets and lost two close friends during the conflict and for what. That is why I protested and I still get quite angry when the subject is brought up.

One of my early boyfriends was a Vietnam vet, he died at 43, could not get over the war or the booze. His one wish in life was to give his life to save mine. I wrote to many soldiers over there, got a lot of sad letters from friends of those men.

One thing that drove my desire for change, that had nothing to do with business was that people have switched to saying "Merry Christmas" to "Happy Holidays"
That has really bugged me. I don't recognize the place I live in anymore.

Merry Christmas, everyone.

With that in mind, I have a question for Mitch.....

What does that Mean????

Before you answer let me interject another viewpoint.
I never understood Christmas. It is such a convoluted concept loosely based on some events recorded in the bible and mixed with unrelated and obscure traditions and celebrations from non Christian cultures and blatant commercialism that have no relation to one another, and yet it all gets mixed together like chocolate cake and Cesar salad and yet people seem puzzled when I turn my nose up at it.
I'll often get asked why I don't celebrate or participate in Christmas, there are actually so many reason I usually just turn it around and ask why they do? I can tell you that most people don't really know why they really celebrate Christmas. It's just something their family did. I almost never get the same answer but the reasons they give seldom have anything to do with Christianity. In fact most people who do celebrate Christmas don't profess any religious denomination at all. The most common reason given for why people like celebrating Christmas is because it's a time when their family gets together, which I think is great, family is important, but to place any sort of importance or significance on Santa Clause and Christmas trees is utter nonsense in my mind.
The most polite thing I can do when someone says Merry Christmas to me is to reply by saying "Happy Holidays".

This is the most common answer I hear. No real deep meaning or relevance to the holidays themselves, just some excuse for getting together with family.
I guess the thing is I've just never found it necessary to decorate a tree or color chicken eggs to spend time with my family.

Have a Merry Easter Bunny ,,,, Am I saying that right? ;)

I'm only referring to the fact that when I was growing up, Christmas was a season of celebration of family getting together, bright decorations everywhere that said "Merry Christmas", Christmas music, the fun of exchanging unknown presents, winter fun activities, etc.
Now everywhere I go, all the signs have changed to "Happy Holidays", new Christmas music is crap, there's constant warning of the dangers of tobogganing and the whole "don't offend anyone" mantra.
In essence, the culture I grew up in has gone and I don't like it.
Every time a salesperson wishes me "happy holidays", I want to punch him, lol. I'm not going to Hawaii.
(Notice I didn't bring up religion, that should be a personal choice)

Make sense?

I found the holidays the best when my boys were little coloring eggs and watching them open presents and making movies of it that they can cherish .I had all the home movies made into dvd's and my sons love them .I miss those times because they were special to me and special to them .They never got a lot of presents ,but the ones they got are the ones they wanted .I am the major picture and movie person because my mom and dad never did that and I have my memories in my head but pics would help me share them with my sons .They are lost and family faces in my mind have faded over time and no pictures to bring them back .I just wish I had a few pics and sure others wish for the same .Looking at the pictures bring back so many cherished moments and loved feelings .My second son never meant my parents because he was not born yet when they past away

It makes perfect sense, if you had a happy family life and surrounding when growing up you'd want things to continue just the way they were.
Times change and so does society along with it. With the inevitable influx of people and mixing of cultures and beliefs you are going to have to accept that not everybody was brought up the same as you. Tolerance is the key to us all getting along. The fact that you want to "punch somebody" because they have a slightly different greeting than you makes me question just how tolerant the culture you were brought up with really was? :blackeye: lol

I too was brought up with a family that practiced all the typical Christmas stuff. And just like any other kid I loved unwrapping those presents on Christmas morning and spending time with family. However I eventually got to a point in my life where I started questioning the "why" of things, and started to eliminate doing stuff that made no sense like smoking and celebrating Christmas, among other things, despite the popularity of these things. Yes smoking was very popular when I decided to quit. It has gone out of favor now, but I remember a time when people would threaten to punch a waiter because they were told they could no longer smoke in the restaurant they use to.
Yes times change, but sometimes it's for the better.

I'd say if someone is saying "Happy Holidays" to you, then they are showing a lot of tolerance and courtesy towards other people's personal beliefs. Not something I'd personally want to punch them for.

Hope that make sense?
