You tube confusion

I have watched some you tube videos about over wintering lily pads. Some snip all the pads off at the gravel line and some leave them on and just move the pot to the deepest part of the pond. My plan is to snip all of the stems at the gravel line and leave it at the bottom. I'm going to cover the pond with bubble wrap and tarps with leave an aerator running all winter. Sometimes a lake near me gets 12" of ice and sometimes doesn't even freeze. My pond is only about 20" deep. I'm still debating on weather to leave the fish in the pond or bring them in to a spare bath tub I have.

Leave some of the short small eye budding stems on if you decide to cut off the old pads otherwise you could kill the tuber. Check out Colleens pond in Canada. Hers runs all winter.https://www.gardenpondforum.com/threads/my-pond-runs-all-winter-zone-2-3.10570/
Other posts from her and her pond in freezing Canada, might give you some ideas on how to stop yours from freezing: https://www.gardenpondforum.com/members/callingcolleen1.4209/#recent-content

His pond is only 20" deep and could freeze solid. Fish and plants may not survive in a block of ice!

Why cover? Tell us more about your pond - total volume, in ground or above ground? Type of filtration? Type of fish and how many?
