Our well is now an artesian well. It’s fairly close to the house, so we have it draining through a pipe into the yard. Unfortunately it doesn’t get absorbed into the soil fast enough and we now have a small swamp. We were thinking about digging a fairly big hole and letting it drain into that to see if it will create a pond without overflowing. Has anyone run into this problem? Any suggestions how to remedy this situation would be great. Thank you.

that is a cool idea! I don't have any experience in the area of well ponds, so I couldn't advise you.

Welcome to the forum. Check the ph etc of the well water. Ours is too acidic and soft to support fish without buffering it.

Thanks and thank you for the tip. We don’t intend to put fish in it. We are just trying to figure out how to contain the water. I was also looking at water loving plants. Japanese Iris seem to be a possibility.

It’s been a work in progress since April. We seem to have the water level stabilized from the well. We have one gold fish and now have two resident frogs.

We had an algae bloom in the pond so I bought some hyacinths and another type that I planted in the bottom of the pond. The algae cleared in a few days. There were no fish in the pond. We do have some resident frogs. We now have what looks like minnows, about a dozen. The garden center confirmed they have fish in their pond where we got the hyacinths, but they do not know what type of fish. They are very quick so it is hard to tell. They are probably feeding off of the plants. Not sure what I would feed them and if they will winter over. Thoughts?

No need to feed minnows if you have a healthy pond.
