Hi all, just wondering, has anyone tried transplanting wild bulrushes into their pond. I was going to give it a try but I don't know much about it.. do you think they would survive if I cleaned all the stinky mush of of their roots and bare rooted them in my gravel bog or would I need to plant them in dirt also where would they likely so best.. in the main pond on a planning shelf, in the gravel bog, or should I plant them in their own area made outside of the pond around the edge? Any ideas

Oh, they'll survive all right. I don't recommend it - we met a guy who had them planted next to his pond and not only did the roots go through his liner, they went through the wall of concrete pool that was next to his pond. If you want cattails, stick to the miniature or even dwarf varieties that you can buy as an aquatic plant.

Hmmm :( ok I guess I might have to rethink that one.. lol .. I love the look of them for some reason but it's not worth a hole in the liner thanks for the info,.

I have had a few in pots. This year I moved 1 into the gravel bog that is built from a 70 gallon stock tank. It has done well and even had the seed head come up. I just went back to the local pond and dug up 2 more small ones. From the above post it might be a good idea to keep them potted.

Yes that's a good idea, I was thinking the same thing. Was thinking of maybe making another small bog separated from the main pond. A stock tank might be just the thing thanks

@Gbbudd2 Hey there, and welcome! What a coincidence! We have another member by that same name — more or less. Why don’t you go over to our “introductions” topic and tell us a little about yourself and your pond! We love pictures, so please post if you have any.

The bullrush took over the pond at the coors lite plant in Eden NC .Now you see snakes that moved in for a new home and not friendly snakes either .It used to be a pretty pond to take pics by but now just ugly and over grown with them

@Gbbudd2 are you and @GBBUDD one and the same person?
