Yep, 5% error to the low side. Meter reads about 1/4 gallon low after filling a 5-gallon bucket. Simple compensation calculation and since I will usually be topping off less than 5 gallons it's no big deal.
The main thing is no more heavy lifting. (y)

Glad you found an easy solution! Here's mine - I don't even bother with dechlor for top offs. I know... I like to live dangerously! Our water supply is chlorinated at a low level, no chloramines, so I just stopped worrying about it. If I were doing a major refill, I wouldn't take the change, but five gallons in a 100 gallon pond - I wouldn't even worry about it.

That's just me though... do what makes you comfortable!
