Love the cleome - how tall is it? Also, I really like the marigolds with your Hot Papaya - a combo I have not tried. I may do that next year!

Nice photos.

cleome is the pretty pink whispy plant and a butterfly bush is what is in front of the planter on the garage. My broccoli went nuts this year! Two heads were three to four times my hand! I finally pulled those plants out. Need to make some runza's with all my cabbage as I have heads that are huge! Oh I didn't post a pic of them though.

I use seven or eight on my garden. Maybe since this is the first year for this garden here (since we moved here in May) the bugs just haven't found it yet! lol I also use preen to keep the weeds down and my grass clippings inbetween the rows. Helps tremendously cuz I hate weeds! I'm one to use lime also.

NIce - I like plants that are taller. My understanding is the butterflies like cleome - is that true?

The only thing I use in my gardens are the beneficial nematodes. They take care of the Japanese Beetles and because they are natural predators, I don't have to worry about them hurting my fish. I was reading though that the bn will affect the hummingbird moths and I still need to look that up. My roses flower though and before the jb would eat them down to nothing before they could open.

we also have a family of rabbits...mom dad and two lil ones...so far they and I have an agreement (after I found one of my new hostas eaten) they can eat the weeds and leave everything else alone (I think they got the hint with me chasing them so much because after all that they have left the rest alone) so far. We also use osmocote on everything to fertilize and I have used dishsoap (dawn) on my roses as well if I see anyone that doesn't belong on them.

Beneficial nematodes attack the JB's when they are still in the grub stage in the ground. I still get a stray JB from time to time because I do not do my neighbor's yards. My understanding is the BN will also attack termites as welll. I don't know if that part is true, but I do spray them around the parameter of my house.

Since I have been using the BN I have had very little problems with those horrible JB's and I have huge New Dawn roses climbing up the side of my house. Prior to using the nematodes, it was so upsetting to see my poor ND's trying to flower.

There are 3 types of BN's and I use the Heterorhabditis bacteriophora. I order them from Arbico organics - http://www.arbico-organics.com/category/beneficial-nematodes/89

Rebel - I am really enjoying your photos. Thank you for sharing them. I enjoy gardening too.

I will be spraying everything next spring with BN we have an invasion of bag worms this year, destroying my evergreens. They are stripping the branches. Can't spray anything else as they are in the back yard near the pond.

Neat site, I need to read up about which one to get of the BN to fight the bag worms, thanks for posting it.
