Recently lost one of the 7 original goldfish in the pond. This one was huge, an orange comet and one of the very few left from that group. I think it was 11 or 12 years old. Looked perfectly fine, just old I think.

It made me wonder about the lifespan of goldfish in other people's ponds.

So, if you wouldn't mind sharing, how old are your oldest goldfish? Or how old was the oldest when it died?

I don't know for sure, but I think my oldest is probably around 8 years old.

I've had my current pond for 10 seasons and it was born somewhere around the 2nd-3rd year.

Thanks for responding. It does get difficult to keep up with the exact ages, doesn't it?

Yours must be getting pretty large by now.

I agree, hard to remember. Have had some quite awhile, at least 6-7 years, perhaps longer, but have taken some in, given others away, so not entirely sure.

I had some really big ones a few years ago that had been in my pond since I built it way back about 20 yrs but a few years back something went awry and and all the big ones died. Combo of too many fish and wrong pond practices. Biggest were about 12" or so. I miss them. Now I only have about 15 medium sized and small.

We have one of our three original comets that went in the pond 12 years ago. No clue how old he was when we got him, but he's older than 12!

Love the second picture.

I am starting to question my fish load yet again each year they grow so much . Even with all my filtration two bogs and a shower it's the amount of water that I could use more of.

One reason I stick with beautiful goldfish, different varieties.
Can have a lot without issue
