Going to keep maybe 5-8 of them guys. Do the deicer. And a hut over the pond. Bring in the pond pump and hopefully winter is fine and the white walkers don't come.
Well I hope it works out for you as it did me! (but I didn't have a hut)

As for relocation: try neighbors and such.

I know my local Petco, (I know the aquatic specialist manager and employees) has actual knowledge on fish themselves, but that varies by store.

Last winter I covered my pond, with a basic lean to and a pool solar cover. Keeping it covered greatly reduces evaporation, which is a big contributor to water cooling.....think about steam off a hot cup of coffee, or getting out of warm shower.

I think your hut idea is excellent. There are no guarantees of fish health over the winter, but your hut, lower stocking and a de-icer, or small air stone, will go a long way to a better outcome next Spring.

You could consider Craig List for some of your extra fish :) There is an app called Next Door, where people in proximity to one another post things.

Air stones eh? If I can get a few for cheap I may grab one and run that in addition to my deicer. Then I should have no issues with my babies I hope.

Over a year ago my pond was this size and I used a 1500 W trough heater. I have the following comments:

1- it was not expensive in my area to use it. When my pond was that small size it did not keep the pond 100% not frozen at the top. This is not true for my 1000 gallons now. It keeps it unfrozen even in near zero F.

2- I don't think my trough heater will keep the pond not frozen if I was in michigan.

3- that size of a pond is too small for koi and they will suffer from some sort of disease eventually causing early death. They grow fast.

All I do for my pond is a small pump about 1200gph and a floating heater both keep 2 different holes open in 2 different spots. Worse cause for me I have 1 hole open for a power failure. My small pump needs a air prim.

Been doing some research lately. Instead of bringing them in like I did last year really thinking about the de icer.

I saw a de icer at my local pond store for $89.99CDN. It's a tetra de icer. 300 watt. Works for -20C. Thermostat turns it off when it doesn't need to be on reducing hydro costs. I'm not sure how good of quality this product is. If it's over priced. If I even need a 300watt de icer for the size of my pond or the reviews on this product.

Looking for some guidance or advise on this product cause I have seen cheaper de icer but also lower wattage as well.
