Update. I have tarp in pond for when it rains excuse my mess.
I am digging a trench for overflow drain.
While I was digging I hit 3 huge rocks. Okay got those out the way. I continue to dig there is some green tape dont think it’s utility I had those marked so I’m thinking maybe when they were building it is a new build. I’m having problem with the pipe sitting directly on the ground. I put at the lowest point of pond the front of it. It’s lower than the slope of the trench. Okay so maybe if I make the lowest end of pond where pipe starts to be higher so it’s level with the ground pipe will sit on. I think I still need to make end of pipe where water will drain lower than start of pipe so water can flow downwards and back into pond. I’m a 44 year old lady out of shape I see doing this all by my lonesome. My love for aquatics and aquatic animals is all worth it however I am being tested right now like okay I keep running into some road blocks. Not to mention I need to raise the concrete wall to prevent run off from going into pond. If you remember I had the pond fill up with water when it rained. Still waiting for it to rain so I can see where water is coming from that fills up pond. Is it rainwater from above or run off. That’s another story. Thank you for listening

Could you use a shorter overflow pipe that empties into flexible perforated drain pipe? That way you could go around the rocks.

Sorry to hear you're having some problems. Pond construction can definitely be frustrating and confusing at times, but it's all worth it in the end. Wish I could be of help, but to be honest when I built my own pond I had no clue what I was doing and just hoped for the best. :ROFLMAO: I actually found something solid in the ground when I dug my own pond, maybe a drain tile or something. I ended up slightly changing the shape of my pond so I didn't have to worry about it.

green tape can indicate sewerage line. You can use a hair dryer to bend that pipe to fit your bent trench . go to you tube

I hit our septic tank while digging our pond. No clue it was there.

I used to go out with a umbrella during storms to see where the rain water flowed.

Have fun! It is neat to see it come together.

Don't let frustration get to you - it's hard work and always takes longer than you expect, but you'll be so happy when it's finished. Inch by inch :)

The only advice I have is try to make maintenance be using the lawn mower. So much easier than weeding

Wow, you have been busy! You will be in shape by the time you are done!

What is your plan for filtration?

Overflow could just be the pond overflowing on all sides, or make the spot you want the overflow to happen have a small lower area.

How will you keep fish from going down your overflow pipe?

Yes I’ve don’t that too went outside to see where the water would go. It hasn’t rained hard here since the pond filled up. I did notice when I did get some rain the water from the gutter made puddles so I think I found where most of the water is coming from. I put gutter extenders on them and no water flowed into the pond. I was relieved. What I’m doing now is going to build the concrete wall higher to prevent run off from entering the pond.

I just built a trench and have 2 4 inch 20 foot pipes with a pop up drain emitter for overflow. I’m going to put mesh on the pvc pipe that’s at the edge of the pond.
