Hi all - I'm new here - we just purchased an old galvanised water trough and are going to turn it into a pond.
Looking forward to getting advice from all the lovely learned peeps here!

You may need to put a rubber liner in there as I think galvanized trough's can cause issues w/critter health. Check out this link: https://zipgrow.com/worried-that-a-galvanized-tank-might-kill-your-fish/

thank you!
I did wonder, as it only seems to be the outside that's galvanised. The inside is rusty.
Will this matter, do you think?

I think rusty will be better for the health of critters but then you will have to worry about holes coming through eventually. Not sure about if rust gets rid of all the zinc issues or not? Maybe someone else will know for sure. If you aren't putting fish in there the plants will love it as it won't hurt them.

I wasn't planning on getting fish as I don't know anything about how to keep them healthy.
I was hoping the odd froggy would come and visit, at some point.
There are paints that I could use for the inside of the pond, so I might investigate that.
thanks again for your help!
