I got tired of placing tiny check valves into each hose and learned I could put one large check valve, going into the pump. Don't know why I never figured this out before - LOL !
I end up using the check valves as connectors when I have to piece sections together.

I leave mine out but had it before in and insulated tote with air vents .But I only got this one in 2014 .The other one I had was to small so gave it to Tammy my neighbor for her pond .This is now insulated all around except for the bottom ,where it sits on concrete blocks with lots of marble stones under it to help transfer heat .The bottom is open to allow air flow from the nice warm stones underneath it and I think that really helps .I had it last winter in another insulated tote but the tote cracked because I did not double it up .The roof of this is waterproofed with some 60 lb roofing felt and then a piece of left over pond liner and then a piece of foam insulation .The sides are insulated and I will put a piece of pipe insulation around the hose part that sticks out the side of the gnome house
