Beautiful lily, JW!!!
Great ideas, ladies. Yes, Addy, my goldfish are all over me when I'm in the pond grooming the lilies. The koi not so much! The koi are what I want to catch. I can catch the goldfish pretty easily, and then just net out the ones I want to keep, but try to catch a particular goldfish with a net, almost impossible, too. The koi are really fast, and go for cover quickly. Even with the seine net, they figured out how to get under it, and my sides of the ponds are sloped a little, or have shelves, so it's really hard to get a good seal on the edges. Some evening, when it cools down and mosquitos are not out bad, I'm going out there with the big net and my little mini LED flashlight, and see if I can can blind them and catch them. That's how I caught all the goldfish out of the koi pond this past spring. Now wish I had gone to the goldfish pond and brought the 3 koi back to the koi pond. I put them in there thinking it would be easier to catch them, because of the shape and sides, but now the lilies are everywhere, probably 50% coverage on the goldfish pond, 40% on the koi pond, so pretty easy for them to hide away. Will let you know if the flashlight works in the warmer water temps like it did earlier this year when the water was cooler! I figure they will be more alert now, but we shall see .... too hot to mess with it lately, although tonight supposed to get down to the low 60's!

It is weird we have no mosquitoes, at least I have yet to be bitten or even heard one. My yard has been mosquito less for the last few years. Think we have too many predators that like to eat them.

CE we are dropping in to the 50's and YEAH low humidity, low 80 degree weather....................what a nice break from this horrible heat and humidity we have had.

Addy, the reason you have no bad biting mosquito's is due to the extreme hot weather you recently had, they can't take much extreme heat and dry up very quick. Now that we have had some very hot days and dry winds, the mosquito's are now mostly gone', thank goodness, cause now I can go out and enjoy the pond again.

My pond is doing well now, the snakes seem to have moved on, not like the bad heron that will keep coming back till all the fish are gone. I have not had a heron at my pond since I started hanging twine and stuff high above the pond from the trees to the house. Now if only I could find a fix that will keep the snakes away! Bottom pond has been "thined" out of small goldfish cause of snakes! If it is not one thing, then it is another!

We have been extremely hot, but also extremely wet/humid. I figured they would survive that mix. I don't care as long as they are not around.

Maybe the dragon flies have eaten them too... We have had lots of rain here this month, and we normally don't get hardly any rain in July, and I see the storm clouds are gathering again. Last few nights we have had big loud thunder and lighting in the middle of the night, of course that scared my poor Poppy half to death, she kept me awake till after 2 pm last night, had to comfort her again...:)

Everything here has been wet, I figured we would be over whelmed with mosquitoes. Every other bug in the world but not mosquitoes.

Oh did I happen to mention that big mama spawned today. Yep, got rid of those 2 yr olds and the happy couple spread a few hundred eggs everywhere! I only noticed because the lettuce had been thrown from its hoop and was in the skimmer and the smell!! Ugh ! Nobody ate breakfast was another sign. Was it a full moon last night?

I had hoped for one last spawn in my gin rin pond. Had the mats set out and a holding tank for the eggs but nothing. Have 12 fry form the big pond and 8 gin rins so it will be sale time soon to thin out the herd . Going to be hard to decide who goes and who stays.

I doubt it. They will eat eggs for days. I have 2 little 1 yr olds that will eat what big ones wont find. I had 78 little fry I sold for a dollar each last summer. Took too long to get them gone. Had spawn after I sold those and ended up with 12. Hah!
