I just love my ponds, some nights I have fallen asleep out in Gazebo for a hour or two. Fresh air puts me out when I am tired after slaving hard all day at work.

Big Red Bananas are really getting big. Wonder if I will ever get a banana?

So that pretty pond w/the nice red wood is the top pond and is built up higher than the 2nd and 3rd ponds. How deep is the top pond? How did you reinforce your pond walls to hold all the water? Maybe you could do some explaining on how you built each of your ponds and how each one came to be?
You might get some banana's someday on that tree but they may never be edible. I know the Musa Bajoo type that I have can get banana's but they are very fibrous and if you eat one you will never need to take a laxative again

Well me and my sweet nephew dug a big hole in the ground and then I framed it with 8 foot long heavy duty, pressure treated, square posts, that were pounded down good with big long spikes, {I pre drilled the holes} That frame is not going now where and will last forever! I can sit on it and it will never budge or move, Then I slipped the liner inside and capped it off with 2X4,s and screwed them down good too. I should have took more pictures... he he he

That's right now I remember you added that new upper pond just a short while ago. All looks great and works like a charm! I like the way one pond flows into the next and keeps your pond so nice and clean. You and your wonderful nephew have done a fantastic job. When can you and your crew come and build me that setup :D

I would love to go to Washington and give you a hand, trouble is I have to work non stop at work these days. Our Newest supervisor quit the Bakery and moved to another department, so now we have another new supervisor and its starting to wear me out training them all over again. Just another endless job! Time to go to work soon....

Ha Ha thanks but just kidding on the pond build. If you were close it would be fun but someday might pop in on you for a visit up there.
Enjoy your day at work!

Colleen, You are a hard worker and everything looks beautiful! I'm interested in how the top pond flows to the next level? In looking at your pictures, they appear slightly apart from each other. Did you place the liner over the edge, to the next level? Also, does some of the water travel from pond to pond, via hoses?

In one of your pictures, what was originally your top pond ( now your second pond) looks like it has something on the bottom...is it a bottom drain?

One problem I face, is my yard is not level, very sloping.

Good sloping yards make great flowing ponds! one to the next!
We are on a 25 degree plus slope from the house to the pond. It is even hard to walk up the hill.
Makes a great stream bed.

Did you place the liner over the edge, to the next level? {yes I did}

Also, does some of the water travel from pond to pond, via hoses? {yes, water is pumped from lower level ponds to upper level ponds and then water free flows back down spillway.

In one of your pictures, what was originally your top pond ( now your second pond) looks like it has something on the bottom...is it a bottom drain? {no drain... water just makes it way from top pond to bottom through water drops, water is pumped to top level and reaches the spill way and simply spills down. There is an overflow in bottom pond in case it rains heavy, excess rain seeps to big nearby tree...

I forgot to take a picture of how I framed that one section, where the water flows down to third pond from the top. I did place the liner over and cut away the excess, leaving lots to hang over the edge where I created a spillway. There is a gap in the top wood frame that allows the liner to hang over into next lower pond, creating a spillway, where the water drops down into lower pond.

Hope that helps a bit.

Use the slope to your advantage. Create upper and/or lower level ponds and connect with a stream or spillway

So peaceful at night there.
You are building up your retirement so someday you can enjoy your pond all the time that you want to so work hard when you are young and strong.

Colleen do you cut your red banana down each year and bring inside somewhere cuz I just know you can't keep it outside in winter.
