The channel will have block or rock on the sides. Will have brick mortar to make it smooth for adhering the rubber. The barrel will sit at the end of the channel below the water line.
barrel?I have a nice rock that I want to place above kind of like a bridge to hide the channel

what is the yellow?
on your edges I would caulk them with some pls30 that sticks to rubber and it should have no problem to the concrete so long as it is dry. from looking inside and out you have done a nice job with your idea. but as you asked above yes if you had the water come down your shut that is acting as a skimmer off the surface of the pond and if it fell into the top like a water fall it would hold any leaves etc. and no chance of a leak. it's called a negative edge you tube it.

The yellow is just a pool noodle. I folded the rubber down to room for settling. I put the noodle there to stop crap settling down in it. I have since removed it. And covered with stones.
