My brother built a deck and it had to be 3 feet here it is 18 inch's and I live 15 from the NC border and up in NJ it was 36 inch's when I built my deck and front porch up there and I lived in Edison.I know every spring and fall my preformed would shift and raise out of the ground and it had a foot of sand under it according to directions inclosed with preformed on how to set it

You may have been better with a small epdm liner those preforms are a nightmare to get level and keep level .You can get small liners cheap and this way you could go deeper,What you have to worry about is when the power goes out during a storm and how long it will be out
