Very nice and such clear water! Plants will fill in nice after awhile. Wonder if you will end up w/a net eventually?
A follow up to the barn swallows. Just witnessed them in action against a crow that decided to take a bath in the bog. All of sudden 8 swallows descend upon the poor bird just looking for a bath. They were squawking and dive bombing that crow until he left and one escorted him out of the yard. Those swallows are pretty cool birds.

Kinda like Lawyers they see an injury and they all swarm the poor victims. Slip and fall call Paul. Or I guess in this case slip in the bog while getting in or out and call Paul

Yep, they build several nests every year in the rafters under the barn and have several batches of babies through the season. Flight training is very funny, they go to the roof of the barn and basically just push the babies off to fly. And they are like clockwork each year, come back the last week of April and leave the third week of August. They along with the bats in the barn do a great job of pest control.

It's amazing how but ugly doesn't even come close to describing what they look like as babies. All babies are so cute EXCEPT BIRDS

And noisy as all heck, when it is feeding time they make a racket. My wife this past Christmas got me one of those birdboxes with a video camera. We had chickadees, pretty cool how they build the nest and how quick they go from babies to flying out, you are correct, not cute when they first come out of the shell. Now the baby deer we have had in the yard the last couple of weeks that is cute.

Yep. When you are building you never think you are going to get to where you are now. Enjoy how your pond will mature each year.

Looks great! My kids kicked a bunch of the pads off our new lillies on Saturday so I'm still waiting for the remaining leaves to reach the top of the pond and kick out some flowers. How long does that take, usually?

I planted that water lilly about May 11. I had ordered in online, it was very small when it arrived, two small leaves. I had my doubts as to how well it would do. It really started growing once the weather and water warmed up about two weeks ago. The other water lilly I have is still growing, not as much sun as this one so it has been a little slower. That one also was very small when I got it. I have been using the fertilizer tabs, when planted and every couple of weeks.
